Hutchinson Teams with Shenandoah Forum to Lead CPEAV Workshop

In October 2008, community planners, elected officials, planning commissioners, and citizen groups gathered in Williamsburg to consider effective solutions for community-based planning in their communities.  The 2008 Commonwealth Land Use and Zoning Conference, sponsored by the Citizens Planning Education Association of Virginia (CPEAV), offered a series of workshops to give communities the tools they need to chart better futures for themselves.

As part of the conference, Jennings Gap president John Hutchinson, along with representatives of the Shenandoah Forum citizens group, led a workshop entitled “Letting the Public Have a Say in Managing Community Change.”  The workshop used the Forum’s 2007-2008 Community Dialogue Project as an example of how to engage a community in the planning process.  Hutchinson served as the pro bono consultant for the Forum’s project and led the CPEAV conference workshop discussion about project's examination of the planning tools available to the community and its evaluation of specific tools to implement Shenandoah County’s comprehensive plan.
